FINEworks specializes in consulting in complex
environments where consensus-building across organizational and jurisdictional
boundaries is paramount. FINEworks brings executive skills and experience
to its assignments; this assures alignment with the strategic objectives of its
clients. It operates as a boutique consultancy, calling on a network of
specialized associates depending on clients’ needs. Clients include a number of
federal government departments and agencies and the not-for-profit sector,
including Sector Councils. Services
include organizational design and development, change management, economic and
policy analysis, group process facilitation and project management.
FINEworks was incorporated in
2003. From
2003 to 2005, it provided executive management services to the Treasury Board
Secretariat of Canada and to Public Works and Government Services Canada in the
form of an executive interchange of the company principal as Executive Director
of the Organizational Readiness Office, responsible for setting overall
direction, and obtaining funding to build capacity within the public
service. In this function, the Company
provided leadership to 3 communities of professionals, identified as being
critical to the success of the Government-on-Line initiative. Working as chair of senior level (ADM, DG)
interdepartmental committees Ed Fine helped identify HR needs and priorities
for each of these communities, and managed a complex set of inter-related
projects (over 40 each year) to deliver useful tools to build capacity within
these communities. Critical to
achieving senior support for this agenda was the ability to demonstrate the
“business case” of investments in such areas as training and leadership
development. Identifying and mediating
diverse interests among the internal stakeholder communities is typical of the
value-add services provided.
All of FINEworks projects have been
completed on time and within budget and have received superior satisfaction
ratings from clients. The value-add provided by FINEworks is in the assurance that all the deliverables will be
developed in a manner that aligns with the strategic goals of the client, and
that the team will be comprised exclusively of seasoned executives who have had
operational experience, and understand fully the complex inter-relationships
among public policy objectives, operational imperatives and the full range of
people management issues.
FINEworks participates in
communities of practice (CoPs) with other senior consulting professionals,
which ensures that company approaches incorporate current best practices. The CoPs also provide a network upon which
to draw suitably qualified resources as needed to meet the unique requirements
of each client and each assignment. Ed
Fine is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Canadian Consortium of
Small Business, providing access to a large basin of talent.
